All Applicants including internal staff should fill out each part the form as fully as possible.
-
It is advisable for all applicants, internal or external, to apply on line. You can visit the 'Current Vacancies' section and follow the link for NHS Jobs. Applying on line enables you to keep track of your application, receiving confirmtation that your application has been submitted, if you have been successful for short listing and details of interview if applicable.
-
When completing the additional information section remember that this is a key part of the application form where you get to tell the organisation why you are the best fit for their vacancy. It is important that you address ALL the points on the Person Specification identified to be assessed from your application form at shortlisting stage. For this reason it is best not to rely solely on submitted a pre-written CV as this will rarely provide evidence to each of the specific points on the person specification. You may however include a CV in addition to completing the additional information section.
-
For each of the criteria identified in the Person Specification you need to explain how your knowledge, skills and experience meet the requirements of the post. This can be carried out by giving evidence and examples of these points in the for Additional Information section, additional sheets can be attached if necessary. Failure to address all the essential elements of the Person Specification in this Section of the Application Form will lead to you not being shortlisted for interview.
-
Remember you can provide evidence from outside of the working environment if it is relevant.
-
The information contained in your application form is matched against the relevant criteria contained in the Person Specification for the post. This process is called shortlisting. Please note we can only carrying out the shortlisting on what is clearly stated on the form, we cannot make any assumptions.
-
If the Person Specification states that the post requires professional registration (e.g. NMC, GMC, HPC etc.), please ensure that you clearly state on your application that you possess the required registration, along with your registration number. If you do not your application form will not be sent for shortlisting.

Be prepared. If you are not sure where you are going either pop in on a day prior to the interview or make sure you leave plenty of time. If for any reason you are late, try to get a message to the panel and ensure you explain and apologies on arrival. The panel members will understand about getting lost, not being able to park but if you don’t say anything they may just assume this is normal for you.
-
Try to relax. We all know that interviews are nerve wracking and the interview panel have all been in your shoes before remember. They will do their best to put you at ease and will understand if you’re a bit nervous to begin with.
-
Do you understand the question? Many of us have been there, in an interview, panic setting in because we don’t understand the question and a tendancy to waffle and hope we get through it. Don’t do this. The panel will be only too happy to explain what they were asking you about, they may rephrase the question or even give you an example, however they can only do this if they know that your confused in the first place!
-
Be informed. Try to do some research about the role, the department and or the organisation as a whole. Has there been things in the news which may affect this role? Look on the website. You don’t need to do hours of revision but if it’s a job your really keen on then it’s worth doing some research, other candidates will and you don’t want to be piped to the post on the basis that another candidate seemed keener than you.
-
Ask questions. Feel confident to ask questions of the panel at the end but rather than asking question because you feel you ought to, try and think about what you really want to know about and taylor the questions to that. It will be far more worthwhile for you and may help to show the panel just how serious you are about that job.
-
Get feedback. If you weren’t successful this time around don’t worry, it’s great experience all the same and even better if you get some feedback which will help you in the future.
