Our services

The Hospital has the resources to provide most of the acute care needed by our community, including intensive and coronary care services.

A 24 hour Accident and Emergency service is operated throughout the year, with 60% of the workload occurring during the summer period. There are over 47,000 attendances each year.

An integrated service in general medicine and care of the elderly has matured in the last three years within Weston Area Health Trust. The team of consultants is enthusiastic and forward thinking. In addition to an acute in-patient (across 4 wards) and out-patient medical service, specialist diabetic and non-invasive cardiology services are provided.

An 18 bed obstetric unit provides low risk obstetric care within a midwifery led maternity service. Three consultants oversee the service and this unit works in partnership with St Michael's Hospital, Bristol, for higher risk cases.

The Trust is seeking to develop a Paediatric Assessment Unit, in conjunction with local PCTs, to improve local patient choice.

In addition to excellent facilities at a Children's Centre, a variety of specialist clinics are provided for children, especially for those with sensory defects. A second Community Paediatrician post has been created to support a North Somerset wide service development. The Child and Adolescent Mental Health service has also benefited from additional investment to provide additional Clinical Psychology and nursing support for its developing service.

As part of the Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire Cancer Network, the Trust provides a range of cancer services. Those services already accredited include, Breast, Colorectal, Lung, Gynaecology, Palliative Care and Urology. A Daycase Chemotherapy Service was introduced in 2002 and further developed in 2003, with the opening of a 10 station Chemotherapy Unit, further improving local access for patients.
